Privacy-First Digital Currency with a Thriving Open Community

Zcash (ZEC) is a decentralised cryptocurrency that uses zk-SNARKs to provide optional financial privacy - and it is backed by one of crypto's most engaged open-source communities.

Launched in 2016 from the Zerocash academic paper, Zcash introduced zero-knowledge proofs to public blockchains. Unlike Bitcoin where every transaction is fully transparent, Zcash offers both transparent and shielded transactions - giving users financial sovereignty.

The Zcash community is governed by the ZIP process, funded by the Zcash Community Grants programme, and driven by hundreds of contributors worldwide building wallets, tools, education, and advocacy.
